Hello everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Easter and found more eggs than glitches this year. We’ve been keeping our heads down and our hands busy—here is what’s been happening behind the scenes of Warbound.

Progress on the theme

Harry has blessed us with another update to our theme song.

It’s still a work in progress, but it’s chugging along nicely! What do you think?
If you were the composer, would you lean more into the heavy percussion, or do you think the current vibe is just right?

Loadouts (continued)

In the past devlog we spoke about our ongoing work on loadouts.
If you've missed it, you can read about it here.

Since then Ellie has been hard at work on improving the system and adding yet another functionality; the weapon editor.

The weapon editor will allow you to modify your weapon with internal components that alter the way the gun feels, attachments such as bayonets or scopes (depending on the weapon) as well as skins and other visual components.

We're just about ready to start working on the UI for it, and I'm looking forward to sharing fancy UI screenshots when they're ready!

Community Spotlight: One of our Discord members, Shovel, suggested alternative weapon stances—like the historically accurate one-handed pistol grip versus a modern two-handed grip.
We certainly like the sound of this idea and are willing to explore if it's something that would fit our over-all design!

Got a cosmetic idea? Whether it’s unit markings or specific engravings, let us know on our discord!

Boomstick Progress: The M1897 Trench Gun

Work continues on our latest addition to the armory. Here is a look at the current progress on the The M1897 Shotgun. There’s nothing quite like the satisfying "thunk" of a sliding pump to make you feel ready for clearing a trench.

We've now finished the modeling, UV unwrapping and baking stages, and have moved on to texturing. Please note that these are very early drafts of the textures, and still a work in progress.

In addition to the weapon itself, we've also completed the modeling stage for a new modification - the M1897's under-barrel bayonet, a preview of which you can see below.

We look forward to showing a more complete, animated version of this weapon soon!

M1911 Progress: Early Animations

Alongside the work on the M1897 "Trench Gun", we have also rigged and begun animating the M1911 Pistol that was shown in the last devlog.

Below you can see the current animations in action!

Behind the Curtain: The Crash Reporter

Encodic has been focused on something you hopefully never have to see: a Crash Reporter.

We know, we know—a crash reporter isn't as sexy as a Tiger tank. Usually, seeing one of these means something has gone wrong.

While a crash reporter isn't the most flashy update, it is very important for the game's stability. We know that seeing a crash screen is never a great experience, but this tool now handles the heavy lifting for you. It automatically gathers the technical data we need to fix bugs, which means you won't have to worry about manually writing out long reports or hunting down log files yourself.

We’ve even integrated it into a "dev-only" Discord channel.
If a game crashes, we see it instantly and can start hunting the bug before you've even restarted the game.

Vehicles: More than just a ride

We gave you a sneak peek at some vehicles last month, but today we want to talk about their role in Warbound.

Since the beginning we've known we want to have vehicles in Warbound.
Jeeps, trucks, halftracks, panzers, planes and things in between.

We want to create dynamic and immersive battles that make you feel like you're right in the heart of combat during WWII, and vehicles are an integral part of that experience.

Our current implementation is rough, but it serves as a proof of concept and gives us a better idea on how it's integrating with the rest of the game and what needs to be improved.

That’s it for this update! We're headed back to the workshop to keep polishing. Thank you for following along on this journey with us.

See you on the front lines,

The Warbound Team
